  1. Flash Back Post of the Day: This artwork was pivotal for me. It was my first time working with a pedestal, my first solo museum show, and my first ArtForum review. I was 30 years old and a temporary full-time professor of Sculpture. I finally felt like I was getting to a place where my artwork and teaching were coming together. With this installation, I wanted to pull the viewer into the room and around the artwork. When I went to the Torrance Art Museum for my site-visit, I noticed that viewers would pop their heads into the gallery, but often wouldn't enter or explore the gallery as a whole. I knew that by utilizing the central architectural element in the ceiling, a soffit, that I could visually pull viewers into the space and around the artwork. I visualized the form that I wanted to make almost instantly, and I had found additional colors of flagging tape - finally! Because my past works had been so reliant on glo pink, orange, and yellow, I wanted to experiment with blues and greens. There are 2 layers in this work, blue on top of green and green on top of blue. I wanted to flip the artwork into itself like a mirror. The title, from a Spoon song, was perfect for it - "Fill it up and pour it down the inside". Work shown - "Fill it up and pour it down the inside," 2006, Flagging tape, hardware, pedestal, 18 x 20 x 12 feet / 5.49 x 6.1 x 3.66 meters, location: Torrance Art Museum Medium. #sitespecific #geometry #math #large #sculpture #installation #color #colour #art #flaggingtape #megangeckler #studioartist #publicart #instaart #over20years #perspective #flashback
