  1. @Regrann from @girlscouts - Back in 1992, the whole world was looking up to Mae Jemison—literally!—as she became the first African-American woman to travel in space. As the daughter of a math teacher, Mae was always interested in the world of STEM. After college, she got her medical degree and put her skills to work as part of the Peace Corps. But it wasn’t until after Sally Ride’s historic flight that she decided to make her childhood dreams of space flight a reality. Jemison took to the skies as a Mission Specialist on STS-47, and conducted tests on weightlessness, motion sickness, and other investigations. “The first thing I saw from space was Chicago, my hometown," she has recalled. "I was working on the middeck where there aren't many windows, and as we passed over Chicago, the commander called me up to the flight deck. It was such a significant moment because since I was a little girl I had always assumed I would go into space.” Special thanks to Girl Scout Montana for her heartfelt depiction of Mae.
